About the Work
This piece is a favorite. I love that it isn’t as uniformly pretty as some of the others. Nature is the ultimate canvas, not because it is pretty, but because it often isn’t. Yet, it is still impressive and relatable nonetheless. In dissonance, we often find harmony. In asymmetry, we find beauty. In our own duality, we can find union. The dissonance of nature schools us in the power of viewing through a twin lens.
Field Exposures, Nos. 01–08, a series of small mixed media paintings exploring landscape through memory. Each work considers memory as a kind of delayed photographic development, retaining traces of color, atmosphere, and observation while allowing the original image to shift to express an intimate detail, rather than a broader view.
