About the Work
When we were walking a quiet trail at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, the clouds parted in this strange but interesting way. The blue sky was visible through this oblong shape formed by cloud and tree tops. When the rest of the sky is gray and cloudy and a blue portal opens, hope floods in. In an instant, the light and color, reminds the observer that calm exists above the storm. Because a blue shift in color gives the impression of closeness, blue sky through gray clouds rejuvenates and elevates depressed emotions.
Field Exposures, Nos. 01–08, a series of small mixed media paintings exploring landscape through memory. Each work considers memory as a kind of delayed photographic development, retaining traces of color, atmosphere, and observation while allowing the original image to shift to express an intimate detail, rather than a broader view.
