Painting traces

People often ask where artists get their ideas, but I think the better question is: What actually happens when we create?

I believe every painting is more than an image. It is the physical trace of an encounter.

As an abstract painter, I’ve come to understand that painting isn’t simply about expressing emotion or illustrating an idea. It’s a process of entering a space where memory, experience, intuition, and something larger converge. Much like walking through a forest or standing beside the ocean, the creative process becomes a sanctuary—one that changes us as we move through it.

If you’ve ever wondered how artists find inspiration, why abstract art can feel so deeply personal, or why creativity often resembles a conversation rather than a performance, I hope this reflection offers another way of seeing both art and the creative process.
