Meditation on painting

Articulating my thoughts and impressions verbally has always been difficult for me. For most of my life, I communicated best while singing to an audience. When illness took my voice, I felt disconnected from the world. Painting gave me a new voice. I don’t have to think; I can simply let the brush speak for me.

This new series of paintings is an abstracted articulation of the feelings and thoughts I had during my visit to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. Words feel inadequate to express the experience of communing with nature and myself in that stunning landscape.

I don’t paint traditional landscapes; rather, I capture how the external world alters my internal environment. I hope that those who 'hear with their eyes' will be transformed as I have been.
