About the Work
If you take a moment to close your mouth, breathe in through your nose, and exhale while keeping your mouth closed—allowing the sound to vibrate through your throat and chest, like the hum of a bee—you'll feel the effects of humming bee breath immediately.
Exhaling in this way is as natural as breathing when we experience deep emotion. The monotone hum is grounding. Vibration creates resonance in the body. Like connective tissue, sound anchors and balances both body and soul.
Part of the Breathwork series, Humming Bee Breath (Exhale) explores the relationship between breath, sound, and emotional restoration. Inspired by the instinctive ways we soothe ourselves in moments of grief and overwhelm, the work reflects on the exhale as an act of release, regulation, and return. The gentle hum transforms breath into vibration, creating space for tension to soften and settle.
Like learning to soothe ourselves through sound, the Breathwork series soothes through color, shape, and structure, gently reminding us to breathe even when resistance causes us to hold our breath.
