About the Work
Almost every child is handed a seashell and instructed to hold it to their ear and listen. Like the waves, the sound of air passing through a seashell is rhythmic, reminiscent of someone gently shushing the world into silence.
Ocean's Breath (Inhale) carries that same quality. A slight restriction in the throat slows the breath, creating a wave-like sound as air moves in and out. The technique lengthens the inhale, allowing a sense of calm to flood the nervous system. The slow breath heightens the feeling of openness and elation that exists at the top of the breath. It soothes. It steadies. It holds you in a kind of white-noise embrace.
Part of the Breathwork series, Ocean's Breath (Inhale) explores the relationship between breath, sensation, and emotional experience. Inspired by the rhythmic qualities of ocean breathing practices, the work reflects on the inhale as an act of nourishment, presence, and return.
