Breathwork, 2026
Breathwork is a collection of atmospheric abstract paintings inspired by the restorative power of breath. Breath is essential for life, but how one breathes determines more than survival. It shapes one's capacity for a sustainable and cultivated life.
These works serve as reminders to pause, breathe, and return to the present moment. They reflect the understanding that there is not only one supportive breath, but many; and that a flowing breath can soften stagnation, restore movement, and create space for renewal.
In breath, we find communion. In communion, sanctuary.

About the Work
Expansion. Taking in what serves. The subtle rise of hope. At the top of the breath exists a fleeting moment of openness—a sense of possibility, vitality, and quiet joy.
Breathe is a reminder to return to the body, to stillness, and to oneself.
I think we learn to inhale properly before we learn the art of exhalation. To soothe our nervous system, a deep inhale comes naturally. In pain and grief, we gasp and draw air in quickly, reaching for the essence of joy and exhilaration that lives at the top of the breath. We inhale to reconnect with the divine. We exhale to understand the depths of the soul.
Part of the Breathwork series, Breathe reflects on the subtle and often unexpected relationship we have with our breath as both a physical necessity and a simple practice of returning to alignment. A pause. A reset. An invitation to begin again.

About the Work
Exhaling is more than releasing air; it is a process of letting go.
I suffered from panic disorder for a number of years, and learning to breathe properly and fully became an important part of the healing process. Trying to abstract the emotion of exhaling was an interesting experience. From expansion comes release. The body empties.
When breathing mindfully, you begin to notice the oddest sensations. At the end of a long exhale, there is often an emotional response—a kind of quiet sadness, a surrender. Inhalation, by contrast, nourishes and replenishes. Yet the exhale is equally vital. It creates space for the inhale. Without release, without the relinquishing of tension, joy remains unrealized.
This piece and its counterpart exist in opposition to one another: the inhale and the exhale, the top of the breath and the bottom.
Breathwork explores the emotional landscape of breathing as both a physical and symbolic act. Together, these works reflect the rhythms of expansion and release, reminding us that healing often begins by making room for what comes next.

About the Work
Almost every child is handed a seashell and instructed to hold it to their ear and listen. Like the waves, the sound of air passing through a seashell is rhythmic, reminiscent of someone gently shushing the world into silence.
Ocean's Breath (Inhale) carries that same quality. A slight restriction in the throat slows the breath, creating a wave-like sound as air moves in and out. The technique lengthens the inhale, allowing a sense of calm to flood the nervous system. The slow breath heightens the feeling of openness and elation that exists at the top of the breath. It soothes. It steadies. It holds you in a kind of white-noise embrace.
Part of the Breathwork series, Ocean's Breath (Inhale) explores the relationship between breath, sensation, and emotional experience. Inspired by the rhythmic qualities of ocean breathing practices, the work reflects on the inhale as an act of nourishment, presence, and return.

Reminiscent of a sigh at the end of a long day—or even a long moment—it allows more time for release. More room to let go fully.

About the Work
In times of grief, I've found myself naturally turning to a humming bee breath. We often think of moaning in negative terms, when in reality it can be a natural tonic for body, mind, and soul. Monotones have a way of helping us realign.
The inhale may come in short gasps, desperately filling the lungs with oxygenated air and providing support for the exhale—the steady, resonant hum of the humming bee breath. In these moments, the inhale becomes an act of gathering strength, drawing in the resources needed to continue.
Part of the Breathwork series, Humming Bee Breath (Inhale) explores the relationship between breath, sound, and emotional restoration. Inspired by the instinctive ways we soothe ourselves in moments of grief and overwhelm, the work reflects on the inhale as an act of support, nourishment, and preparation for release.
Like learning to soothe ourselves through sound, the Breathwork series soothes through color, shape, and structure, gently reminding us to breathe even when resistance causes us to hold our breath.

About the Work
If you take a moment to close your mouth, breathe in through your nose, and exhale while keeping your mouth closed—allowing the sound to vibrate through your throat and chest, like the hum of a bee—you'll feel the effects of humming bee breath immediately.
Exhaling in this way is as natural as breathing when we experience deep emotion. The monotone hum is grounding. Vibration creates resonance in the body. Like connective tissue, sound anchors and balances both body and soul.
Part of the Breathwork series, Humming Bee Breath (Exhale) explores the relationship between breath, sound, and emotional restoration. Inspired by the instinctive ways we soothe ourselves in moments of grief and overwhelm, the work reflects on the exhale as an act of release, regulation, and return. The gentle hum transforms breath into vibration, creating space for tension to soften and settle.
Like learning to soothe ourselves through sound, the Breathwork series soothes through color, shape, and structure, gently reminding us to breathe even when resistance causes us to hold our breath.
